TWEETSIE RAILROAD
BLOWING ROCK, NC
Tweetsie Railroad is a family-focused Wild West theme park in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Its centerpiece is a three-mile steam-train adventure, joined by amusement rides, live shows, the Deer Park petting zoo, gem mining, a chairlift and play areas on Miners Mountain.
Most families should plan on a full day. The park is built on a hillside, so comfortable shoes and a practical plan for moving between Main Street and Miners Mountain make the visit easier.
Tweetsie operates on a seasonal calendar with daytime visits from spring through fall, followed by separately ticketed Ghost Train and Tweetsie Christmas evenings.
GUIDE TO TWEETSIE RAILROAD
Hours and the Best Time to Visit
Regular daytime season: Opening weekend is April 4–5. The park operates Saturdays and Sundays from April 4 through May 31, plus Memorial Day Monday. From June 1 through August 8 it operates five days per week and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. From August 9 through November 1 it returns to Saturdays and Sundays, plus Labor Day Monday. Regular daytime hours are 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Ghost Train: Friday and Saturday evenings from September 25 through October 31, 7:30–10:30 p.m.
Tweetsie Christmas: Select evenings from November 27 through December 30, generally 5:00–9:30 p.m.
Arrive before the 10:00 a.m. opening for the easiest parking and the shortest early waits. Summer Mondays and Thursdays outside holiday periods are generally lighter than weekends. Saturdays, holiday weekends and the most popular October and Christmas event nights are usually busiest.
Tickets, Parking and Season Passes
Regular daytime admission is $65 for guests age 13 and older and $45 for children ages 3–12. Children age two and younger are admitted free. Taxes and fees are included, and parking is free. Daytime admission includes the Wild West Train Adventure, amusement rides, live entertainment, the Deer Park and playground; paid add-ons include gem-mining buckets, animal feed and selected special experiences. Purchase admission through the official Tweetsie Railroad ticket portal.
Golden Rail Season Passes are $150 for adults and $110 for children ages 3–12; children age two and younger do not need a pass. Benefits include unlimited regular daytime admission, a qualifying bring-a-friend ticket and discounts on selected special-event tickets, food and merchandise. Guests who enter after 3:00 p.m. on an eligible regular daytime date can return free on the next open daytime date, subject to the park’s listed exclusions.
Train, Rides and Miners Mountain
The Wild West Train Adventure departs about every 40–45 minutes during regular daytime operations. Rides throughout the park have individual height, age, companion and health requirements. Children should be measured before lining up, and adults should review posted restrictions before choosing each attraction.
The chairlift connects the lower park with Miners Mountain. Children younger than seven must ride with someone age 13 or older, and each chair has a 450-pound combined limit. A park bus provides an alternative route to Miners Mountain and can accommodate wheelchairs and strollers.
Special Events and Seasonal Experiences
Day Out With Thomas takes place June 12–15 and June 18–21 with a selected Thomas train time. Railroad Heritage Weekend is August 29–30. Ghost Train and Tweetsie Christmas require their own event admission and operate on separate evening schedules.
Chaperone Policy
Guests age 15 and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult age 21 or older. One adult may supervise no more than ten minors, must enter with the group, remain in the park and be reachable during the visit. Government-issued photo identification may be required.
Accessibility and Rentals
Accessible parking is available near the entrance. Most guest areas can accommodate wheelchairs, although the hillside terrain can be demanding. The second passenger car on the Wild West Train and the Mouse Mine Train are accessible. Manual wheelchairs and strollers are rented first come, first served for $10 per day; electric mobility scooters are not rented on site.
Food, Shopping and Guest Services
Restaurants, snack stands and shops operate across Main Street and Miners Mountain, with exact locations varying by season and event. The park accepts major cards and has ATMs. Guest Services can help with lost items, accessibility information and family needs, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the park.
Pets, Park Rules and Re-entry
Leashed pets are allowed in many outdoor areas but may not enter the train, rides, Deer Park, chairlift or food-service areas. Qualified service animals follow separate access rules and cannot enter Deer Park because of the animal enclosures. Alcohol, firearms, drones, scooters, skates and other prohibited items are not allowed. Same-day re-entry is available with the required pass or hand stamp.
Weather and Rain Checks
Outdoor rides and shows can pause for lightning, heavy rain or other unsafe conditions. If the park closes its rides for the rest of the day because of weather, eligible guests may receive a rain check under the park’s policy. Special-event tickets and certain promotional admissions may have different terms.
Before You Go
Choose a few priority rides or shows, note the train departure rhythm and plan when to travel to Miners Mountain. Bring weather-appropriate layers, sunscreen and comfortable shoes. Families should review height requirements in advance and decide whether paid activities such as gem mining or animal feed are part of the day.
