AMUSEMENT RIDES AT CAROWINDS IN CHARLOTTE, NC

Carowinds spans the North Carolina–South Carolina state line at 14523 Carowinds Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28273. Its dry park has more than 60 rides and coasters, from Camp Snoopy attractions for young children to fast thrill rides. RIDES FOR DIFFERENT AGES

Thrill rides: Fury 325 climbs 325 feet and reaches up to 95 mph; Copperhead Strike is a double-launch coaster with five inversions. Afterburn, Thunder Striker, Carolina Goldrusher and other coasters provide a range of speeds and intensity. Check each ride’s warning sign before boarding, especially if you are sensitive to high speeds, drops, spinning or inversions.

Family and children’s rides: Camp Snoopy includes Snoopy’s Racing Railway, Woodstock Express, Wilderness Run and gentler rides. The Grand Carousel offers hand-carved horses and chariots, while Woodstock Whirlybirds is a spinning teacup ride. Groups with mixed ages can alternate these attractions with the larger coasters.

WHEN RIDES OPERATE

Rides generally operate during Carowinds’ dry-park hours, although individual attractions may open later, close earlier or pause for maintenance, weather or private events. On regular spring and fall daytime dates, park opening is commonly around 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. with closing around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.; summer days commonly extend into the evening. Fall Halloween events bring evening hours on select Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and some Thursdays. WinterFest runs from late November through early January, commonly noon to 8:00 or 9:00 p.m., with a limited selection of rides rather than the full summer lineup. The New Year’s Eve event can run later.

For the shortest lines, ride the major coasters soon after opening or later in the day, and reserve midday for family attractions, a meal or a show. Saturdays, holidays and school breaks draw the largest crowds; a weekday outside school vacation is generally less busy. A full day is worthwhile if the group wants both major coasters and children’s rides.

ADMISSION, PARKING AND PASSES

The rides are included with park admission unless a specific attraction posts an extra charge. A typical single-day ticket ranges from about $45 online to $80 at the gate, before applicable taxes and processing fees; prices vary by date and purchase method. General parking is an additional charge for daily-ticket guests, with the amount varying by date and parking option. Buy admission and parking at Carowinds’ ticket page or in the official Six Flags app before arrival. A Gold Pass offers repeated visits and general parking, subject to the pass terms; it can make sense for multiple visits.

HEIGHT RULES AND RIDER SAFETY

Height requirements differ by attraction and may also depend on whether an adult accompanies a child. As examples, Fury 325 requires 54 inches, Copperhead Strike 52 inches, and Snoopy’s Racing Railway 48 inches alone or 36 inches with a supervising companion. Woodstock Express permits 46 inches alone or 40 inches accompanied. The Grand Carousel lists 42 inches as its minimum. Measure younger riders before planning a coaster-heavy day, then follow the requirement posted at each ride; some attractions also have maximum height or other safety restrictions.

Secure loose items before boarding. Ride operators check restraints and give boarding instructions. Guests with accessibility needs can consult the park’s attraction access information or request an accommodation at Guest Services. A child who cannot ride a major coaster can spend that time with a supervising adult on a nearby family ride.

FAST LANE AND WAIT TIMES

Fast Lane is an optional, separately purchased line-skipping upgrade for participating rides; it does not replace admission or guarantee immediate boarding. Carowinds offers Fast Lane Reserve and Fast Lane Ultimate, with differing access and usage rules. Daily Fast Lane starts around $49 per person before fees and taxes and can cost more on busier dates or for a higher tier. CHAPERONE POLICY

Guests age 15 or younger need a chaperone age 21 or older for admission and throughout the visit when the policy takes effect, generally by 2:00 p.m. The adult must show a government photo ID, accompany no more than five guests age 15 or younger, stay inside the park and be available by phone. WEATHER AND SEASONAL RIDES

Thunderstorms, heavy rain, high wind and cold weather can pause open-air rides. Carowinds publishes ride-specific cold-weather thresholds: Fury 325 and Thunder Striker may close around 40°F, Copperhead Strike around 41°F, and Carolina Goldrusher around 50°F. WinterFest opens only select attractions, so a winter visit is more about holiday lights, shows and family rides than riding every coaster.

WHAT TO BRING AND HOW TO PLAN

Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for outdoor weather and bring sun protection and a refillable water bottle. Use the official park map to group rides by area rather than crossing the state line repeatedly. A small locker may be useful for belongings that cannot be taken aboard a coaster. For families, start with Camp Snoopy and other gentle attractions to learn a child’s comfort level before moving to taller or faster rides.
