TRAIN RIDE AT SANTA’S LAND IN CHEROKEE, NC

Santa’s Express is the park’s small open-air train, built in 1963 and numbered 16. It circles Santa’s Land with short stops at each end, giving families a relaxed view of the Christmas-themed grounds.

THE RIDE AND BOARDING

Board at the train station and follow the operator’s directions. The train makes a circuit inside the park; it is not a transportation service into Cherokee or a separate scenic railroad. Stay seated while it is moving and keep children and loose belongings close.

HOURS AND OPERATING SEASON

Santa’s Land generally opens in mid-May and runs into early November. During the operating season, the park opens Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; it is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Train rides are offered during park operating hours, with outdoor operations dependent on safe weather and ride availability.

ADMISSION AND PARKING

The train is part of the park’s one-price, unlimited-rides admission; there is no separate train ticket. General admission is $30 plus tax for guests age two and older, and children under two enter free. Discounts are offered for seniors, military members, AAA members and eligible groups. Parking is free.

VISITING WITH CHILDREN

Santa’s Express is a gentle family attraction and a useful break between the park’s rides and zoo exhibits. Children should board with their group and remain seated until the operator stops the train. The park does not publish a separate minimum age or height for this ride.

WEATHER AND COMFORT

The open-air cars make the ride most comfortable in dry weather. Bring sun protection for bright days and a light layer for cooler mornings. Outdoor operations may pause for rain or lightning.
