SNOW SKIING
Skiing at Beech Mountain Resort in Beech Mountain, NC offers a distinctive experience that sets it apart from other Southeast ski destinations. Perched at 5,506 feet—the highest town and ski area east of the Rockies—the resort benefits from cooler temperatures and consistently solid snowfall (averaging around 80–90 inches annually), complemented by robust snowmaking capable of even producing snow in warmer conditions up to 50°F. This ensures reliable coverage across its 17 varied trails, spanning 95 skiable acres and featuring a vertical drop of 830 feet. The mountain layout delivers spacious, wide runs, including the standout West Bowl slope—one of the rare west-facing runs in the U.S.—while three modern Doppelmayr quad lifts whisk guests uphill swiftly, cutting down wait times
The vibe at Beech is as memorable as the skiing itself. The charming alpine village at the base exudes relaxed mountain-town atmosphere, with curving walkways, twinkling lights, outdoor fire pits, and a cozy lineup of eateries including the craft-centric Beech Mountain Brewing Taproom & Grill. Up on the summit sits the signature 5,506′ Skybar—a glass-walled roundhouse offering vantages for food, drinks, and sweeping panoramic views of the Blue Ridge . Families are well catered to with beginner-specific lifts, a Burton Learn‑to‑Ride snowboard center, ski school, an on‑site nursery, and a free municipal sledding hill for under‑twelves just steps from the slopes .
Add in perennial night skiing under LED lights, two dynamic terrain parks for different skill levels, and a dedicated snow tubing hill with reliable snowmaking, and you’ve got a resort offering a full winter playground—no matter the ability or interest . All of this is wrapped in the cozy charm of the highest town in the South—where crisp mountain air, clear skies, and an intimate mountain‑village feel combine to make each visit feel both invigorating and welcoming.
